The best answer is that there is no perfect answer.
Selecting golf clubs is a personal choice and because there are so many it difficult to choose without actually testing them out.
Almost every golf shop will allow you to return clubs so just go to a large, well known store, ask about their policy and have one of the golf pro’s help you decide.
Personally I like a brand called Taylor Made and I buy all of my clubs slightly used.

Give him a gift certificate from his favorite golf shop, let him pick the clubs . That’s what I recommend as the best idea

I would seriously consider either the “Wilson Ci7’s” or the “Nike Slingshot HL’s”
Both are excellent clubs at a great price.
It would also be good to ask the retailer what sales they have going on. They will likely give you the best bang for your buck.

After much, much online research,I highly recommend this…
I’ve been playing less than a year and was doing ok with the inexpensive starter set I had. When I bought this my game improved dramatically. Several friends that have been playing over 10 years have tried my clubs and two of them have supplemented their sets with the Adams hybrid. These are light clubs, the ball goes straight (usually) and the hybrids are very easy to hit. The only complaint I have is the the loft is not listed on the club head. Short of that I am thrilled. The 8 pc set is sufficient, as a matter of fact my golf instructor said, I probably won’t need to add any additional clubs for quite some time, if at all.
The prices are good and FREE Shipping.
Hope you like it. Good Luck!

Choosing clubs is such a personal experience. There is not a universal best club or set of clubs for everyone. There are many variables to consider and it can be very confusing even for each type of club. Don’t be afraid to mix and match. Also go for hybrids where possible. Best way is to know the right questions to ask when going into a shop and then trust the club fitter to give you the best fit.
I created a buyers guide that I’m giving away for free on my website that explains how to buy clubs and other golf equipment.
Feel free to check it out.
