Glenn Mcdonald asked:

Like any other sports, golf requires that you be geared up correctly to be able to properly play the game. This article will give you an idea of basic golf equipment one requires to be able to learn and play golf.

For starters, the basic golf equipment is a golf ball. Golf balls are dimpled tiny balls, use in to play golf. They are dimpled to reach farther length when driven by golf clubs.

Another important golf equipment is a golf club or golf driver. Golf drivers come in different varieties. This is because a golf course has different landscapes and different golf clubs are required to make the proper drive. Depending on the landscape, either sand, grass or cement, a golf club is essential to make the perfect drive. Professional golfers usually have a bag or two of golf clubs to cater to their golf needs. Most golf stores and sports equipment store sell golf clubs. Some golf clubs are sold in sets while other are sold individually.

To protect your golf equipment, such as your golf club, a golf bag golf club cover is essential. A golf bag will, of course, hold your golf club in one place and will make it easier for your caddy to bring your many golf clubs. Golf bags can also hold golf balls and other golf equipment like water bottle to quench your thirst while under the sun or extra shirt or your regular shoes. On the other hand, a golf club cover covers the edge of your golf club. This is done so to protect your golf club from unwanted scratches and dents. Dents can cause your drive to go from ok to bad. Dents in golf clubs can affect the drive of your golf ball. With this golf equipment, you can take care of the state of your club and your game.

One golf equipment that you need to invest on is a good pair of golf shoes. Golf shoes are different from usual rubber shoes or walking shoes. Golf shoes are created to walk on greens – the type where the sport is played. Golf shoes usually have pointed rubber under the soles to grip the earth and sand under your feet. This way, unnecessary shaking or moving is avoided. This is important because shaking can cause you to not hit the golf ball or to hit the golf ball in the wrong direction. If you plan to play professional golf a good pair of golf shoes is a necessary golf equipment to add up to your list. Choose one that is sturdy yet comfortable enough for you to walk into. Golf is a sport that requires walking from one hole to another or to where your ball landed (you can not use golf carts on the greens) and thus, if your golf shoes are uncomfortable, you would have a hard time concentrating on your game.

A golf equipment usually provided by most golf courses (aside from the golf ball) is the tee. The tee is the tiny pin like thing that you punch to the ground to stand your ball into. The tee is use in teeing off (the start of your first drive) thus the name.

The most amazing golf equipment ever created (for me, that is) is the golf cart. Golf carts can take you from one hole to the other, though as I said earlier they are not allowed on the greens, they still lessen the burden of having to walk under the hot sun. This golf equipment can be acquired from golf courses. Golf players are usually made to use golf equipment such as this to give them a better and easier time playing the sport.

Many specialty shops and sport shops offer golf equipment. The Internet is also a good source of golf equipment. Second hand golf equipment are even auctioned off the Internet, if you are on a tight budget. Check out your local golf shop, sports shop, specialty shops, E-bay or Yahoo! for your golf equipment needs.

Develop The Correct Golf Swing For Women With Golf Fitness Training

Posted on Wednesday, 17th September 2008 in Business

Sean Cochran asked:

The woman golfer has a myriad of questions on how to develop the correct golf swing as does most any amateur. The questions from woman golfers center on a myriad of topics such as; how to hit the golf ball farther, how to develop a more repeatable golf swing, how do I hit half shots with my wedges, what are good putting drills? The list can go on and on in relation to the woman golfer and how to improve their golf swing. An area that is now presenting more and more questions from the woman golfer centers upon golf fitness. Questions such as; what are good golf flexibility exercises, and how can golf fitness exercises help me drive the golf farther? These and many more questions are arising in relation to golf fitness and the woman golfer.

It is well known on the LPGA tour the number of players utilizing golf fitness programs to improve their golf game. Annika Sorrenstam has publicly stated the benefits she has received in her golf game from golf fitness training. One area that always appears to be a concern for the woman golfer is distance. How to hit the golf ball farther and Sorrenstam does hit the ball a long way, and utilizes golf fitness training. A simple connection can be drawn between increased driving distance, women golfers, and golf fitness exercises. The bottom line is this; golf fitness exercises can benefit the distance of drives for the woman golfer.

The questions that need to be answered are how and why. First off an understanding of increased distance, the golf swing, and the woman golfer needs to be addressed. Driving distance is contingent upon clubhead speed. The faster the clubhead is traveling at impact with the golf ball. The golf ball will travel farther, an easily understood concept.

Clubhead speed in the golf swing is contingent upon two components. Component number one is golf swing mechanics. The biomechanics of the golf swing in and of themselves create clubhead speed. It centers upon physics and the coiling/uncoiling of the body during the golf swing. In relation to improving clubhead speed and golf swing mechanics. The more efficient the woman golfer performs the mechanics of the golf swing. A greater amount of energy can be developed and transferred into the golf ball as a result. First and foremost for the woman golfer; the development of efficient golf swing mechanics can improve driving distance.

The second component of increasing clubhead speed is the body. Remember, the body is the implement swinging the golf club. It is the woman’s body executing the biomechanics of the golf swing. In addition it is also the body generating power for the golf swing. Power is the ability of the body to generate the greatest amount of force in a short amount of time. Increase the ability of the body to generate more power within the biomechanics of the golf swing. An increase in clubhead speed can occur. How does the woman golfer increase power outputs of their body? This is where the implementation of golf fitness exercises can be a benefit. Golf fitness exercises can increase the power outputs of the body. Power golf fitness exercises increase the ability of your muscles to develop more force within the golf swing.

How do golf fitness exercise achieve this outcome? Golf fitness exercises develop the body around the golf swing: Very different than ordinary fitness training or aerobic classes. Golf fitness exercises develop the required flexibility, balance, strength, endurance, and power within the body for the golf swing. This allows the body to execute the biomechanics of the golf swing correctly. In addition, golf fitness exercises can improve the swing in areas such as clubhead speed.

This is accomplished with golf fitness exercises training the body in the positions, movements, and physical requirements of the golf swing. This allows for the proper levels of flexibility, balance, endurance, strength, and power to be developed within the body. Improving the capacities of flexibility, balance, strength, endurance, and power can improve the ability of the body to perform the golf swing and increase distance.

To summarize, the questions surrounding women and developing the correct golf swing are many. How to improve the golf swing through golf fitness exercises is one of these questions, and one specific area within this topic is distance. Increasing distance is contingent upon increasing clubhead speed. Improving clubhead speed centers upon golf swing mechanics and the body. Improving the efficiency of the golf swing mechanics will allow a greater transfer of energy into the golf club, thus improving clubhead speed. The second component of distance lies within the body and its ability to generate power. Increasing the power outputs of the body will enhance clubhead speed. Power outputs of the body can be improved through golf fitness exercises. These exercises differ than normal gym based exercises in that they develop the body around the swing. This allows for the proper levels of flexibility, balance, strength, endurance, and power to be developed within the golf swing.

Gearing Up for Golf – Information for the Novice

Ron King asked:

Learning how to play golf requires more than just skill. Basic golf equipment and learning about your golfing needs are necessary features for gearing up for golf. Here are some golf tips for the amateur to aid you in learning how to play the game.

For starters, the basic golf equipment is a golf ball. Golf balls are dimpled so they can go very far when driven by golf clubs. Most courses will provide you with balls if you ask.

When gearing up for golf, spend a lot of time educating yourself about your golf club or golf driver. Golf drivers come in different types. This because each course has different landscapes and several golf clubs are needed to make the proper drive. Depending on the landscape, be it sand, grass or cement, a golf club is essential to make the right drive. Professional golfers generally have a bag or two of clubs to handle their golf needs. Most sports equipment stores sell golf clubs. Some are sold in sets while other are sold singly.

To protect your purchases, such as your golf clubs, a club cover is vital for your golfing needs. A golf bag will, of course, contain your clubs in one place and will make it more practical for you to transport many. Golf bags can also hold balls and other items like a water bottle to quench your thirst while under the sun or an extra shirt or your walking shoes. It also covers the edge of your golf club. This is done so to protect it from unsightly scratches and dents. Dents can cause your drive to go from ok to awful.

One piece of standard golf equipment that you need to purchase is a quality pair of golf shoes. Golf shoes are unique from usual rubber shoes or street footwear. They were designed to walk on greens. Golf shoes normally have pointed rubber on the soles to penetrate the earth and grass under your feet. This way, distracting shaking or moving is minimized. This is important because shaking can cause you to miss the ball or do it in the wrong direction. If you want to play professional golf, a sturdy pair of golf shoes is a key piece of golf equipment to purchase. Choose ones that are sturdy yet comfortable enough for you to walk in. Golf is a sport that requires traveling from one hole to another or to where your ball landed and thus, if your golf shoes are painful, you will have a hard time concentrating on your game.

Golf equipment typically supplied by most golf courses (aside from the golf ball) is the tee. The tee is the little pin that you push in the ground to stand your ball onto. It is used for teeing off (the start of your first drive) thus the name.

The most practical piece of golf equipment ever made is the golf cart. Golf carts can take you from one hole to the next, and while they are not allowed on the greens, nevertheless they reduce the burden of having to walk under the hot sun. This golf equipment can be acquired from golf courses. Players are generally made to use a cart to give them a better and more relaxed time playing the sport.

Many specialty and sport shops offer golf equipment. Cyberspace is also a good source. If you are on a tight budget, second hand golf equipment is auctioned off the Internet at E-bay or Yahoo. Or feel out your local golf and sports shops for your golfing necessaties. Don’t be wary about asking for proper education at one of your local clubs or on the course. Just about golf clubs offer courses or a seasoned member may be prepared to give you tips regarding your swing, stroke or how to play the game. Gearing up for golf needs the expenditure of money and time, but once you have your fundamental golf equipment in hand, you’ll be ready to score your 1st hole in one!

Choosing Golf Clubs

Posted on Sunday, 14th September 2008 in Golf

Lind Golf asked:

Ok. Here are the basics. A golf club has three parts – the head, the shaft and the grip. A standard set of golf clubs consists of three woods (the Driver, #3, and #5 fairway woods), eight irons (#3, #4, #5, #6, #7, #8, #9, and PW), and a putter – that’s twelve clubs in all. According to the rules of golf, and we should all play by the rules, you can carry fourteen clubs in your bag, so many golfers add a specialty wood or another iron.

Now, let’s have a look at the different types of clubs.

Drivers & Fairway woods

These clubs are used to hit longer shots. That’s a basic yet apt way to look at it. If a golf hole is a par four or five from tee to green, most golfers would choose to use a wood.

The driver, or the 1 Wood, has the lowest loft of any golf club. Loft is the angle of the club face that controls trajectory and affects distance. A driver has a loft between 7 and 12 degrees. Better golfers have traditionally favored drivers with less than 10 degrees of loft, which require a lot more skill to hit.

Most golfers also carry a #3 and #5 fairway wood as part of their arsenal. A #3 wood has a loft of 15 degrees, and a #5 wood has a loft of 18 degrees. The higher the golf club number, the higher the loft. The #3 and #5 wood are commonly referred to as fairway woods, because they are most often used during the second shot of play, when you are supposed to be on the fairway.

Hybrids

Hybrids are a recent innovation to golf. A hybrid is a combination of an iron and a wood and is an easier to hit alternative to a long iron. Hybrids are versatile enough to be used in any situation. Hybrids come in a range of four lofts – 16 (#2), 19 (#3), 22 (#4) and 25 (#5) Degrees. Hybrids replace their equivalent number long iron, e.g. a #3 hybrid will replace a #3 iron and a #2 hybrid can be used to replace a #5 fairway wood.

Irons

Irons are generally used for shorter distances and more control than drivers and fairway woods. The closer you are to the green, the higher the iron you will use. A standard set of irons consists of #3, #4, #5, #6, #7, #8 and #9 and the PITCHING WEDGE (PW). A sandwedge is generally a good option to purchase for shots out of sand traps. The #3 and #4 irons are harder to hit than the higher numbered irons. Many golfers choose to replace the #3 and #4 iron with higher lofted woods or hybrids which are easier to hit than traditional long irons, resulting in comparable distances.

Wedges

Wedges are really just specialty irons. The first wedge is the Pitching Wedge (PW), which is usually between 52 and 56 degrees in loft. The PW is the highest lofted iron in a standard set and lowest loft of the wedges. Lob wedges range from 58 to 64 degrees and are used for close range short and high shots to overcome obstacles close to the green. Wedges are extremely useful for your short game and it is beneficial to keep a selection of them in your bag.

Sand Wedges are another type of wedge and are designed to get you out of the dreaded sand traps. They have a shorter shaft and a more angled face to get under the ball in order to exit a bunker.

Putters

As the adage goes “Drive for show, Putt for dough”. The putter usually gets you in the hole, so it can be assumed, that choosing the right putter is critical to your game. Putters come in various styles and types.: short, belly, long, bent, center-hosel, heel-toe, mallet, and so on. When choosing a putter the main things to consider are the: weighting, balance and feel. Better putters provide alignment aids to help you visualize the line from your ball to the target.

How To Optimally Prepare For The Golf Season With Golf Fitness Exercises

Posted on Saturday, 13th September 2008 in Golf

Sean Cochran asked:

The PGA Golf Tour is in full swing and for many parts of the country and world the golf season is upon us. Many of you are anxious to dust off the golf clubs and get out to the golf course for your first round of golf. A question that may be on your mind is how do I get ready? How do I knock off 6 months of rust on my golf swing, feel comfortable with my driver on the first tee, and post a good golf score at the end of the round?

All questions that are asked often in the world of professional golf and this article will provide you with the answers. Answers to these questions and many more fall under the category of how do I prepare myself for the golf season?

Interesting enough if the guidelines from this article are followed the golf score you post for your first round of the year may be lower than you ever expected, the distance of your drives may well be farther than you imagined, and the number of accurate golf shots you hit may be even more surprising!

The answer to all the questions on how to get ready for the upcoming golf season centers on preparation. Preparation is the key to a successful first round of golf and every round you play in the upcoming golf season.

We all probably understand the definition of preparation but lets take a quick look in order for us to all be on the same page. Preparation can be defined as the work or planning involved in making something or somebody ready or putting something together in advance (Encarta Dictionary, MSN.com).

A definition that sheds light on getting ready for the upcoming golf season. Using the above definition we can see the process of preparing for the upcoming golf season does not begin 10 minutes before your first tee time, but rather in advance of when you get ready to hit driver off the first tee. Bottom line the process of getting ready for the upcoming golf season begins weeks or even months before your’ first round of golf of the year.

To have a successful first round of golf and a good season of golf you must begin the process of preparation well in advance of your first time on the golf course. If you look at professional golfers they begin the process of preparing for the upcoming golf season months in advanced. I would suggest doing the same. Develop a plan that will get your golf swing ready once the snow thaws, the birds are chirping, and the greens are ready for putting.

What does such a plan contain? This type of “golf preparation plan” would contain drills, exercises, and programs to improve and prepare every aspect of your golf game. If we break down the game of golf into categories the “golf program” becomes much easier to understand. Obviously, we have the different shots made on the course. A brief breakdown would indicate the need to implement swing drills to work on the full swing, short game, and putting. We could obviously get a little more detailed than a breakdown of the golf game into three different categories, but lets’ keep it simple.

Now that we have this breakdown of the game of golf into full swing, short game, and putting the next step is to implement a series of drills to work on each of these aspects. Simply put I would suggest devising a series of drills to work on each part of the golf game/swing. This can easily be accomplished by purchasing a few books or videos from one of the top-teaching professionals in the world of golf.

Each one of these qualified golf instructors have numerous materials available to help you with your golf swing. And if you are one of those individuals that lives in a cold climate and is unable to get to a driving range or practice facility, no need to worry. Most all of the instructional videos/books available have drills that can be performed in the comfort of your own home.

At this point we have a couple of bases covered in the “preparation plan” for the upcoming golf season. We understand preparation is key to a successful year on the golf course, the “preparation plan” begins well in advance of the first tee time of the year, and a portion of the plan consists of swing drills. This brings us to final part of your “preparation plan” for the upcoming golf season.

This part of the plan centers on the implementation of golf fitness exercises to go along with your swing drills. We must understand the concept of your body and the golf swing. The golf swing is executed in its’ entirety by your body. In order for your body to execute the golf swing correctly. It requires you to have certain levels of flexibility, balance, strength, endurance, and power within it. If you are lacking in any one of these physical areas compensations will occur in your golf swing.

It comes down to this: In order to be prepared for the upcoming golf season and to improve your golf swing. The implementation of golf fitness exercises geared towards developing your body around the golf swing is necessary. This type of program will prepare the body for the golf swing and the upcoming golf season.

To summarize, the process of preparing yourself for the upcoming golf season begins with a “preparation plan”. This plan begins weeks to months in advance of your first time out on the golf course. Additionally, this “preparation plan” for the upcoming golf season contains a series of golf training drills to prepare your golf swing. The golf training drills break down the golf game into three sections; full swing, short game, and putting. A series of swing drills are implemented to work on each one of these parts of your golf game. In addition golf fitness exercises are implemented into the golf-training program to develop your body around your golf swing. Put all these pieces together and your first time out on the golf course this year should be an enjoyable one.

Golf Basics – What you Need to Know

Posted on Saturday, 13th September 2008 in Golf
golf
Golf Gift asked:

The rules in golf are fairly simple if you already know them, however explaining them could take a while. If you are not very familiar with the basics, the first thing you would need to know would be the main objective of the game: you have to hit the ball at the start or at the tee into the hole for every section in the course’s 18 sections or 18 holes.

The hole is located on the green, which is a piece of short and well-maintained grass. Once you are already on the green, you need to use your putter, which is the club that has a slab-like end, instead of your other normal clubs.

Every hole has a specified target number of shots to be done from the tee to the hole. This is called the par. For instance, if you are on a par 5 hole, you would need to get the ball from the tee to the hole in five shots or less. If you were able to do it with exactly the number of shots specified, then your score would be a par. If you did it in one less than the par, your score would be a birdie. If you did it in two less than the par, your score would be an eagle. Three below par would be called an albatross and the best score would be a hole in one, which happens if you were able to get the ball from the tee to the hole in one hit.

On the other hand, if you scored one more than the par then that would be a bogey. Two more than the par would be a double bogey. If you have tried for more that 12 shots, then you forfeit the hole. You would then have to move to the next hole.

Eventually, as you go through the game, there would be various hazards that you would have to deal with. If your ball lands on the rough, which is an area on the course that has long grass, you could find it difficult to move on from that area. There could also be trees on the rough of some courses, which could make them harder to get out of. The worst hazards would be the lakes and the ponds, because if you hit the ball into one, it would cost you the shot you took and another shot as a penalty, which would make it harder to reach par.

Golf And Golfing For Beginners – Your Basic Golfing Bag

Posted on Friday, 12th September 2008 in Sports And Fitness
golf
Syd Z. Nohcud asked:

Now that you “have taken up” the social sport of golf you may well have a couple of questions. Golf and golf is a most terrific social sport. You get to while away hours, conferring with the golf greens as well as your friends on the golf course. It’s a wonderful, relaxing pastime. As well many of business’s “big deals” and business contacts can well be made golfing and on the golf course as well in the golf course clubhouse.

Now that you have decided to enroll in the pastime of golf what indeed are the basics of golf?

To begin with w standard set of golf and golfing clubs includes three “woods” golf clubs. These three woods or “drivers” comprise the “driver”, “three-wood” and “five-wood”. Next in line, in the description of standard golf clubs are the “irons”. The groups of the “irons” group of golf clubs generally are composed of the three-iron, five-iron, six-iron, seven-iron, eight-iron, nine-iron, pitching wedge and finally the all famous golf club, with which to make your final shot into the golf cup on the golf green.

According the strict rules of golf you cannot carry more than fourteen clubs in your personal golf bag. This is a very strict and enforced rule of the game and sport of golf. You cannot carry more than the maximum allotted number of fourteen golf clubs in your golf bag – even if you never ever use those extra clubs. It can be said that often more experienced and advanced golf players mix and match here and there with extra , non of the mill , non standard golf clubs , for example a one-iron or a seven wood. However in these cases the sum total maximum of the golf clubs in their bag adds up to 14 golf clubs. As a newcomer or beginner golf player it is always best to start your golf career with the standard , simple array of golf clubs that are used by most golfers. Why make life, and your golf career, complex for yourself, unnecessarily.

The woods have the longest shafts of any golf club in your bag. The golf wood clubs are designed to simply hit the golf ball either from a small wooden peg, called the tee, which elevates the ball slightly. You can only use a “tee” in the tee-box at the start of a golf hole. Next you can hit the golf on a flat surface of the golf course, like the fairway. The “wood” golf clubs are made and designed to hit the ball a long, long way. Accuracy of the hit of the golf ball is less of an issue here. Woods obtained their name as they used to be made of persimmon wood itself. While some of these clubs are still made the old way, out of actual persimmon wood, most now are made out of metal – generally steel or better yet titanium. Some golfing fanatics will tell you that the permission based woods gives these golfers “more control” on the golf course. Again as a beginner golfer why complicate your life unnecessarily. Start with standard metal woods. In addition maintenance and care of these clubs is easier.

Like woods the irons are mismatched. These groups of golf clubs are not made out of iron but mostly of steel, titanium and with higher end iron utilizing high tech graphite materials in their structures as well. Irons with the smallest numbers, like the three-iron or the four-iron, have the longest shafts and are designed to hit the golf ball lower and further, and like the woods, with less accuracy. Shafts get shorter as the numbers printed on the sole get bigger and larger, until you get to the “Sand Wedge”. The sand wedge is the shortest club in the golf bag. The standard sand wedge has a 34 inch shaft, which is eight inches shorter than a standard driver shaft. The shortest clubs, like the nine irons, pitching wedge, and sand wedge are designed for accuracy, not distance. An optimum shot with a pitching wedge flies high in the air and lands softly, without much roll. That way you can aim right at the hole. Indeed golf professionals often call their wedges “money clubs” since these pro golfers cannot win the high end golf tournaments unless they can hit the ball so close to the hole that they are in with only a very few putts.

Lastly you will find that because these shafts are so much shorter and are designed to get your golf ball into the air, you will find that you will generally have your most success as a new and budding golf aficionado with your nine-iron and pitching wedge. These are very good clubs to practice when you are first starting out. You will soon discover what a great golf shot is supposed to feel and look like. Keep practicing with these two clubs because when you finally make it onto the golf course, these will be the clubs that will save you many a golf shot and lower your golf score.

Prepare yourself Physically for Golf

Golf Gift asked:

Most people would think that golf hardly requires any physical exertion. However, an 18-hole round could definitely take a toll on your mind and body. Improving your physical fitness could help you to improve your consistency, concentration, balance and the strength of your swing.

You need not start a full-blown fitness routine in hopes of making your game better. Here are some things that any golf player could effortlessly do to get in shape physically for the next game.

1. Strength

Although you can always spend time in the gym bulking yourself up to hit the ball to the far ends of the earth, this is not always necessary. To improve your strength for playing golf specifically, it is advisable to do exercises that will improve your swing. You can do some rotational exercises using weights in various positions, which could improve not only your core strength, but also your balance, flexibility and control.

2. Flexibility

This is one of the aspects that a lot of people have to work on as most golf players neglect to do a proper warm-up before a game or before a round. Doing a couple of stretching exercises and swings using a two clubs or one heavy club could help in loosening up your muscles and joints and eventually help you in performing better at your game.

3. Endurance

There are also several ways to enhance your endurance, however, if you want to improve your endurance specifically for playing golf, all you need to do would be a bit of walking. Although this is already what players do when they are out on the course but if you are able to walk longer distances without being too exhausted then you would be able to keep the quality of your swing consistent – whether you are on the first hole or the last hole.

You need not be a health buff to get in great physical shape for playing golf. You would just need to do a couple of simple and basic exercises from time to time and eventually, not only will you be physically fit for golf but you might also be able to improve your game.

And because it is situated at the west of the attractions, Championship Golf Resort could be easily reached using Florida Turnpike and Osceola Parkway toll roads, with which vacationers could avoid the heavy congestion often experienced when approaching from the east.

Aside from these three marvelous golf resorts, there are still many other golf resorts waiting to be discovered and enjoyed. You could try looking for them at the Web because most of them have Web sites already; or you could ask for brochures and pamphlets of different golf resorts.

With the wonderful things mentioned, you can be assured that golf resorts are great alternative ways of making your vacation or golf activities truly an invigorating one.

Happy teeing!
